Alpha Kappa Alpha
On November 9, 1928, eight visionary and accomplished African American women chartered the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, at the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Denver, bringing the sorority’s mission of sisterhood, scholarship, and service to their campuses.
Guided by the principles of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, these trailblazing women set new standards of academic excellence, leadership, and unwavering commitment to "service to all mankind" throughout their collegiate journeys and beyond.
Since its chartering, the Alpha Kappa Chapter has grown from two universities to now encompassing four: CU-Denver, CU-Boulder, University of Denver (DU), and University of Northern Colorado (UNCO). More than 95 years later, it continues to exemplify high ethical standards, academic distinction, and leadership while upholding the legacy and mission of the Supreme Sisterhood.
